True/False:
Dating is an old institution that began in the 17th century
Marriage is a social institution that is controlled exclusively by the state
History indicates that family change is inevitable.

Short answers:

Be able to explain the idea of “shifting the center” with examples from class discussions and articles.
The idea of “shifting the center”, illustrates how feminist theorizing about motherhood might be shifted if different voices became central in feminist discourse. Shifting the center to accommodate this diversity promises to recontextualize motherhood and point us toward feminist theorizing that embraces difference as an essential part of commonality.
Women of color motherhood differ from white motherhood(center). Women of color have performed motherwork that challenges social constructions of work and family as separate spheres, of male and female gender roles as similarly dichotomized, and of the search for autonomy as the guiding human quest.  . Examining survival, power, and identity reveals how racial ethnic women in the U.S encounter and fashion motherwork.
Ex) Work that separate women of color from their children also framed the mothering relationship. Until the 1960s, large numbers of African American, Hispanic, and Asian women work in domestic services. Even though women worked long hours to ensure their children’s physical survival.
For many women of color, choosing to become a mother challenges institutional policies that encourage white middle-class women to reproduce and discourage low-income racial ethnic women from doing so, even penalizing them.

Societal changes:

Why do more couples today live together before getting married and does it decrease their chances of getting a divorce?
Economic uncertainty and scarcity of economic resources increase the likelihood of cohabitation compared with marriage. The secular rise in the public’s acceptance of cohabitation and of childbearing outside of marriage contributes to a decline in cohabiting partner’s expectations about whether marriage is the “next step” in their relationship.
Young adults became more accepting of nonmartial cohabitation, with increasing percentages agreeing that cohabitation was a “worthwhile experiment” and that it was a good idea to live together before marrying.
Marriages preceded by cohabitation are more likely to end in separation or divorce than marriages in which the couple did not live together previously.  May be due to differences in the background, attitudes, and behavior of those choosing premarital cohabitation compared with those who do not.

The Romantics: John Keats and Samuel T. Coleridge

Coleridge         The Romantic Period in England had six major poets, William Wordsworth, Lord Byron, Percy Shelley, William Blake, John Keats, and Samuel Coleridge. For the purpose of this essay, the focus will only be on Keats and Coleridge. Although they were contemporaries, they each have very different styles of writing as is evident in their poetry. In “This Lime Tree Bower My Prison” an exemplary example of a conversation poem, the reader is able to see Coleridge’s thought process of how he realizes nature is everywhere around oneself, as long as all “facult[ies] of sense and…the heart [are] awake to Love and Beauty”.

O captain my captain and do not go gentle into that good night

If you have any test reviews, homeworks, guides, anything school related that you think can be posted on this website, reach out to me at makingschooleasier@gmail.com   In Walt Whitman’s “O Captain! My Captain!” and in Dylan Thomas’ “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night”, the reader is presented with two venerable characters of different backgrounds; both which have deep admiration for the poem’s character. With the authors use of diction, figurative language and tone, the reader is able to see just how much some people have an effect on others and what their death brings upon the author and the reader’s mind. In Whitman’s poem, the reader is able to see the heavy use of metaphors throughout the poem.  Whitman’s entire poem is a metaphor. “Captain” is the metaphor for Abraham Lincoln, but on a first reading or without the footnote that is provided, this poem would be very ambiguous. The author’s tone throughout is very prideful and full of admiration towards the President. He
