11.1- Male-Female Differences
Biological differences in genitalia determine sex
Masculinity- the qualities generally associated with being a man
Femininity- the qualities generally associated with being a woman
Men have better spatial ability, geography, politics, math
Girls are more verbally advanced, earn higher grades in school, better at reading/writing
Men more verbally and physically aggressive, commit more violent crimes
Females are better at nonverbal communication
Masculine men/women more likely to die faster than feminine men/women
Prehistoric drawings show female characteristics of fertility and nurturance, while male characteristics of hunting and warring
Asians yin and yang dichotomy- females are yin (passive, shaded, and cold) while men are yang (active, light, hot)
Plato=women weak/ inferior, Aristotle=women incompetent b/c cannot produce semen
View of women as incomplete or imperfect males
Functional school of thoughts-behavior evolve as a result of their functionality for survival
Maternal instinct-an inborn emotional tendency toward nurturance that was triggered by contact with a helpless infant (women had no room to develop other abilities)
Genetic sex- whether an individual has XX chromosomes (female) or XY chromosomes (male)
Estrogen- the class of sex hormones typically considered the “female” sex hormone
Androgen- the class of sex hormones typically considered the “male hormone”
Effect of prenatal hormones on gender behavior evidence: 1)experimental data from animal studies 2)studies of humans who have experienced prenatal genetic or hormonal anomalies
Expose developing animal fetuses to androgens during early prenatal development, a typical finding is that greater amounts of androgen affect later behavior: such animals show higher levels of rough and tumble play, more aggressive behavior, and higher activity levels.
Genetic anomalies include mutations in # of xsomes
XXX are female and infertile, XYY and XXX are male (XYY have more testosterone, may be more violent)
Turner’s syndrome- an individual is born with only a single x chromosome; such a person has female external genitals but no ovaries (display timid and feminine behavior)
Androgenized females- genetically female ppl who were prenatally exposed to excessive levels of androgens and are born with either masculine or ambiguous external genitalia
Cyclical oscillations of hormones during menstruation are said to be related to female personality characteristics including mood swings, violence, mental illness etc.

When you dig your feet into the sand you should feel cooler sand since the sun's penetration into the earth is limited. ii. This suggests that the Sun can only penetrate into the Earth up until a certain depth. iii.Based on this conclusion, one can assume that the Sun is not responsible for the Earth's internal heat since, we have heat hundreds of kilometers within the Earth and this can not be exp

The Romantics: John Keats and Samuel T. Coleridge

If you have any test reviews, homeworks, guides, anything school related that you think can be posted on this website, reach out to me at makingschooleasier@gmail.com   PART OF THIS ESSAY HAS BEEN  OMITTED  FOR FULL ESSAY COMMENT,EMAIL, LIKE, FOLLOW US                                    The Romantics: John Keats and Samuel T. Coleridge         The Romantic Period in England had six major poets, William Wordsworth, Lord Byron, Percy Shelley, William Blake, John Keats, and Samuel Coleridge. For the purpose of this essay, the focus will only be on Keats and Coleridge. Although they were contemporaries, they each have very different styles of writing as is evident in their poetry. In “This Lime Tree Bower My Prison” an exemplary example of a conversation poem, the reader is able to see Coleridge’s thought process of how he realizes nature is everywhere around oneself, as long as all “facult[ies] of sense and…the heart [are] awake to Love and Beauty”.

O captain my captain and do not go gentle into that good night

My Captain!” and in Dylan Thomas’ “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night”, the reader is presented with two venerable characters of different backgrounds; both which have deep admiration for the poem’s character. With the authors use of diction, figurative language and tone, the reader is able to see just how much some people have an effect on others and what their death brings upon the author and the reader’s mind. In Whitman’s poem, the reader is able to see the heavy use of metaphors throughout the poem.  Whitman’s entire poem is a metaphor. “Captain” is the metaphor for Abraham Lincoln, but on a first reading or without the footnote that is provided, this poem would be very ambiguous. The author’s tone throughout is very prideful and full of admiration towards the President. He
