Theme: The adult world changes everyone and everything sometimes for the worse
Plot Synopsis:
Holden goes to New York City after being expelled from school and lives alone for awhile. He goes to bars and tries to act like an adult trying to get liquor and talking to older woman. He also calls some girls with whom he would have tried to seduce but backs off. Holden tries to do many things as an adult but in the end the reader sees that he can’t and he doesn’t like any of it. He would like to be a child forever and prevent anyone from going into the adult world and facing such hardships.
Characters:
Holden Caufield: He is the main character and he wants to prevent children from every entering the adult world.
Phoebe: She is Holden’s little sister and to him she is the perfect kid because she is still innocent and uncorrupted by the adult world.
