- Fermentation- a chemical reaction of yeast on sugars
- Intoxication- a physical and mental impairment resulting from the use of alcohol
- Depressant- Drugs that tend to slow down the central nervous system
- blood alcohol concentration- the amount of alcohol in a persons blood expressed as a percentage

Teens drink alcohol to:
o escape pressures or problems
o to deal with stress and relax
o to fit in
Teens might abstain from alcohol to
o to avoid confrontation with the law
o not make any mistake they might later regret
o keep control of themselves
3. Explain in detail 6 short term affects of using alcohol
Affects on the:
Brain- It depresses the brain and slows down the central nervous system which means you have slower reaction times and think much slower.
Liver- The alcohol begins to be broken down but it takes some hours depending on how much was consumed
Blood Vessels- The blood carries the alcohol throughout the body and it also dilates the veins so you begin to feel warm and turn a little red
Heart- Alcohol can cause an increase in heartbeat and heart pressure. After years of consumption heart attacks and stroke chances increases
Kidneys- Alcohol causes people to urinate more and makes them dehydrated the next day
Stomach- The alcohol passed straight through the stomach unless food is present but it increases the amount of gastric juices in your stomach which irritate the stomach lining
4. Write the 6 things that driving experts and medical researches have found to be true about drinking at any level
They have found out that it:
o reduces the ability to judge distances , speeds and turns
o reduces the ability to judge accurately one own capabilities and limitation
o increases the tendency to take risks
o slows reflexes
o adds to forgetfulness to take precaution such as using signals when turning
o reduces the ability to concentrate
5. Explain in detail the 5 long term affects of using alcohol
Leads to:
Brain Damage – Leads to major brain damage and can lead to hospitalization in mental institutions due to the loss of memory cells and problem solving abilities
Chronic Liver Problems- After long term consumption the liver loses ability to break down fats which prevents it from working correctly. Cirrhosis can also occur because liver tissue is replaced with useless tissue and it keep building up and reduce the lives functions.
Tolerance and Dependence- As people begin to drink more and more there body ask for it when they aren’t drinking and become dependent and don’t act normal without it
The Multiplier Effect- When taking with other medication it can cause unwanted result and even death due to the combination
Alcohol and Pregnancy- When pregnant women drink they affect their baby because a baby takes much longer to get rid of the alcohol in their small bodies. If the mom drinks a lot the baby can grow and develop retardation, impaired speech, hyperactivity or general weakness
